The Words You Left Behind - autumn 2024

Exhibited at "Did You Look For Me?" The Muse, Brecon

After the death of my Godfather I transmuted his digital footprint into my art. Phrases and words from social media worked their way into an epic poem which felt like his words speaking to me again. This was a few years ago, at the very beginning of AI in the public domain. I used one of the early apps to combine images from my godfathers social media with photos from my life since his death. I used each of the 22 verses as instructions and generated hundreds of images. I distilled these starting points down and digitally manipulated them to reveal or combine elements. I used acrylic and pastel on plywood to translate these digital, ephemeral images into real-world artworks.

Andy was lasers and planets and sci-fi, he was nature and revolution and love. These paintings feel like him.
